Royal Ascot Racing Club star returns in style

Royal Ascot Racing Club star Headway produced a stunning turn of foot to win the 32Red Spring Cup Stakes at Lingfield on Saturday.

As the field turned for home, Headway was in last place and at least seven lengths from the long time leader Rufus King who looked a certain winner having kicked off the final bend.

Headway had earlier been forced out wide when Ryan Moore edged the second favourite off the inside rail and had to come widest of all, appearing to have an impossible task.

However he started to eat up the ground and flew down the home straight to pass the winner with some ease, his Jockey struggling to pull him up after the line such was his momentum.

This was a very eye catching performance and James Doyle was beaming after the race. He said that Headway had been squeezed for room having broken from the stalls which resulted in him being shuffled to the back of the field. He added that your horse had settled well during the early stages and then shown a tremendous turn of foot to pick up the long time leader.

He also said that Headway should be capable of staying a mile, particularly if he has learnt to settle during the early stages of a race.

The plan for Headway was to ultimately be the German 2000 Guineas, however entries will now be made in both the English and French 2000 Guineas after a dazzling return.
