Profitable impresses in King’s Stand Stakes

Clive Cox’s PROFITABLE held on to win the King’s Stand Stakes Group 1 on the opening day of Royal Ascot.

Adam Kirby, who chose to come down the middle of the track to find the best ground, stormed to the lead one furlong out and held on.

Cotai Glory ran on for second place at a huge price of 33/1 and looked to relish the softer ground.

Goken (50/1) and Jungle Cat (14/1) completed the places as favourite Mecca’s Angel couldn’t justify the heavy backing throughout the day.

Known for enjoying soft ground, Paul Mulrennan couldn’t get Mecca’s Angel involved.

Mongolian Saturday, who was stubborn in the Parade Ring and going down to the start, lead early on but faded quickly on the soft ground.
