NOMINEES FOR THE 2017 CARTIER RACING AWARDS UNVEILED

The 2017 Cartier Racing Awards nominees  have been unveiled.

The Cartier Racing Awards are European horseracing's equivalent of the Oscars.

Runaway QIPCO Champion Stakes winner Cracksman (owned by Anthony Oppenheimer, trained by John Gosden & ridden by Frankie Dettori), star three-year-old filly Enable(Khalid Abdullah/John Gosden/Frankie Dettori), Europe's top miler Ribchester(Godolphin/Richard Fahey/William Buick) and dual G1 winner Ulysses (Flaxman Stables & Cheveley Park Stud/Sir Michael Stoute/Jim Crowley) are the four nominees for the main equine award, the Cartier Horse Of The Year.

The Cartier Horse Of The Year is revealed late on the evening of Tuesday, November 14 at the 27th annual Cartier Racing Awards, following on from the announcement of the winners of seven other equine categories, the Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt, the Cartier Two-Year-Old Filly, the Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt, the Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly, the Cartier Sprinter, the Cartier Stayer and the Cartier Older Horse. The full list of nominees for each award can be found below.

The glittering awards' ceremony before an invited audience of 300 concludes with the announcement of the recipient of the Cartier/The Daily Telegraph Award of Merit, which goes to the person or persons who, in the opinion of the special 15-strong Cartier Jury, has/have done the most for European racing and/or breeding either over their lifetime or within the past 12 months.

Harry Herbert, Cartier's Racing Consultant, commented: "The 2017 European Flat season has delivered exceptional performances month after month and the nominees for the 27th Cartier Racing Awards are some of the best racehorses in the world.

"The revealing of the eight equine Cartier Racing Awards is eagerly awaited on the evening of Tuesday, November 14, while the Cartier/The Daily Telegraph Award Of Merit is going to a very special person."

European horseracing's top awards are decided in a unique way and give the racing public a big say.

They are delivered through a tried and tested combination of points earned by horses in Pattern races (30%), combined at the end of season with the opinions of a panel of racing journalists/handicappers (35%) and votes from readers of Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph plus ITV Racing viewers (35%).

The 27th annual Cartier Racing Awards are presented at an atmospheric ceremony before an invited audience which includes many top owners, trainers and jockeys at the Dorchester Hotel, London, England, on the evening of Tuesday, November 14, 2017.

The Cartier Racing Awards were established in 1991 to reward excellence in horseracing.
