The world’s premier international jockeys’ competition, the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup, returns to Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 10th August 2019.
Now in its 19th year, the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup is one of Ascot’s most loved race meetings. Racegoers turn out in their tens of thousands for this unique event where three top riders in each of four teams – Great Britain & Ireland, Europe, Rest of the World and The Girls – battle against each other in a thrilling six-race showdown.
The action-packed day of Flat team racing is followed by a live headline concert from Jessie J, with DJ set by Tinie Tempah and performance from Go-West. Live music post-racing is one of the most popular features of the day, with King Edward VII and Winning Post Enclosure ticket holders benefitting from access to the 'Golden Circle' close to the stage.
Ahead of the day Ascot was fortunate to catch up with Tinie Tempah to talk about the day and ask him some of our burning questions…
Q: On the 10th August you are coming to the world-famous Ascot Racecourse for an evening at the races – how excited are you to perform at such a prestigious venue?
A: “I can’t wait to come and perform at Ascot for you guys. DJ Charlsey and I have been touring all over the world and we are excited to bring that energy to the racecourse.”
Q: What can fans look forward to on the night?
A: “If you have ever been to a Tinie Tempah show you know I go 100% from the start to the finish – it’s going to be madness!”
Q: Have you ever been to Ascot as a spectator before? Any memories you’d like to share?
A: “No, I’ve never been to Ascot as a spectator before but I’m looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere.”
Q: What is your favourite song to perform and why?
A: “My favourite song to perform really depends on where I am and what the crowd is like. I’ve created three albums and I’m working on my fourth, so I’ve thankfully got a lot to choose from.”
Q: When you think of your musical career, what are the highlights, what sticks out the most?
A: “I have loads of highlights from my career thus far but I would say one of my favourite memories that I think about all the time is my performance at the London 2012 Olympics.”
Q: British rap has reached new heights in recent years as Stormzy’s headline spot at Glastonbury highlighted. Have any new artists inspired you recently?
A: “I’m always listening to new music and looking for new artists. Right now, I’m really feeling Not3s, Kali Claire and Yxng Bane.”
