November sees the return of the Jumps Season at Ascot Racecourse, with dedicated family days on Saturday 2nd November and Saturday 21st December. From an epic fireworks display and a pop-up cinema to a Father Christmas meet & greet and an animatronic polar bear, the winter season at Ascot is packed with family fun, all alongside free fairground rides and top-class Jumps racing.
Kicking off the 2019/20 season with a bang, families can enjoy an exciting seven-race card with more than £250,000 prize money on offer at the Fireworks Spectacular Family Raceday, Saturday 2nd November. The £100,000 Sodexo Gold Cup Chase over three miles is the headline race and it is a true test of stamina for both horse and jockey with several of the previous winners going on to compete in the Grand National. Coinciding with the start of the festive holidays, the Christmas Family Raceday, Saturday 21st December, incorporates seasonal entertainment as well as two £150,000 races.
The Fireworks Spectacular Family Raceday will see the front lawns split into two zones, one for family fun for under 12s and the other for children seeking more of a thrill. Fairground rides include laser tag, a climbing wall and a range of kiddie rides for younger ones. Rides are free of charge until 4pm and cost just £1 after, with all proceeds going to various local Berkshire charities and schools that are supported through the racecourse’s partnership with the Ascot Round Table.
Adults can treat themselves to warming winter themed cocktails while watching the races and kids can enjoy hot chocolate and toffee apples. Families in the King Edward VII Enclosure can enjoy a new Supper Club concept at the Horsewalk Inn where racegoers will enjoy a glass of Prosecco on arrival followed by a two-course early supper, between racing and the start of the fireworks, on the fourth floor for £25 per person in advance or £30 on the day.
There will also be a pop-up cinema in The Pavilion showing family favourite Toy Story (available on a first-come-first-serve basis) with themed food and a pop-up bar. The racecourse will come to life as the evening draws in as a spectacular 20-minute fireworks display, with more than 20,000 shots fired, will light up the Berkshire skies from the centre of the racecourse’s track.
Just four days before Christmas, the Christmas Family Raceday features a top-quality day of Jumps racing in the calendar, headlined by the Grade One JLT Hurdle Race – one of the most prestigious long-distance hurdle races in Britain won by the likes of Thistlecrack and Big Buck’s in recent years. The card concludes with the ultra-competitive Betfair Exchange Trophy over two miles worth £150,000 which is always an exciting finale to the day.
The event promises to be exhilarating and enjoyable for all ages with a festive animal extravaganza complete with animatronic polar bear, a Christmas parade led by Mr & Mrs Claus in a horse-drawn sleigh, free fairground rides, and candle-lit carol singing with the Ascot Brass Band.
Children are also welcome in Ascot’s Fine Dining restaurants with tiered packages available for under 17s. Prices from £19.20 per child with adults from £170.40 per person.
Little ones will be entertained by the Ascot Animal Trail, festive arts and crafts and face painting while Father Christmas and his reindeer will be in attendance, and Mrs Clause will return for her much-loved story telling by the fire.
Advance Queen Anne Enclosure tickets from £20 for adults and all children under 18 go FREE with a paying adult.
