The very first Matchbook Clarence House Chase took place 30 years ago this year. The winner on that day? The great Desert Orchid, ridden by Simon Sherwood. 

Sherwood recalls how he had to fight to the very end on board the grey, to get the better of Panto Prince in a photo finish.
