Mutakayyef retains Summer Mile Stakes

Odds-on favourite Mutakayyef won the Fred Cowley MBE Memorial Summer Mile Stakes for the second year in a row at Ascot on Saturday.

The William Haggas-trained colt was mightily impressive to soar clear in the final furlong to repeat his success of 12 months ago by winning the Group 2 under Dane O’Neill.

Elsewhere, well-backed Danzeno stormed two lengths clear two furlongs out to win the Totescoop6 Heritage Handicap with Silvestre De Souza on board.

The six-year-old ran well in the Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot last time out and continued to enjoy the five furlongs at Ascot to win comfortably.

The opening race of the day went to Hugo Palmer as his favourite Curiosity landed the Ruddy Novice Auction Stakes under a patient ride from Oisin Murphy.

It was more success for Dane O’Neill as he won the Playboy Club London Handicap Stakes on Laraaib.

Arguably the most impressive winner of the day was Mittens, sporting those famous Frankel colours, as she landed the Trant Engineering Fillies’ Handicap Stakes in some style.

It was joy for Richard Hannon in the second division of the Ruddy Novice Auction Stakes as Tigre Du Terre never looked like losing and streaked clear in the final furlong.
