Mutakayyef heads Super Saturday of racing

Saturday is one of the busiest racedays in the calendar, with Newmarket taking centre stage with the Group One Darley July Cup, supported by Ascot and York, to produce a bumper card on ITV1.

Indeed there is also a quality card at Chester, where recent Kempton Royal Ascot Racing Club winner, Comprise, will be in action in the 4.10pm race.

Our big race on Saturday is the Group Two Fred Cowley Memorial Summer Mile, which often sees horses that ran in the Group One Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot taking a slight drop down in class. That is the case with Royal Ascot runner-up, Mutakayyef, who found only Ribchester too good in June and indeed won this race last year very impressively. Kapersky, fifth in the Queen Anne, also runs, alongside the rejuvenated eight-year-old Sovereign Debt, who is up in class having won a Group Three at Epsom last time, narrowly beating another of today’s rivals, Gabrial, in the process.

The July Cup at Newmarket forms part of the Global Sprint Challenge alongside the King’s Stand Stakes and Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. The winners of the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, The Tin Man, and Commonwealth Cup, Caravaggio, square up in a vintage renewal of the race.

Indeed plenty in behind both Ascot winners re-oppose, including Diamond Jubilee second, Tasleet and third, Limato, who won the July Cup last year. Harry Angel, second to Caravaggio, is also in the line-up.

Tickets for Ascot's Summer Mile Family Weekend are still on sale and under-18's go FREE. Find out more.
