Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup artist profile - Craig David presents TS5

From a UK Garage pioneer to a mainstream multi-million seller, Craig David is so much more than your average artist. The Southampton born singer is a truly exceptional individual who transcends the norm, consistently outdoes expectation and continues to push musical boundaries.

It’s incredible to consider what he’s achieved during his 10 year career. From Ivor Novello awards to sales of over 13 million, two No.1’s, 14 Top 10 hits, huge success in America and sold out shows across the world, Craig is one of the UK music scene’s most successful male solo artists.

As well as awards, acclaim, platinum sales and sold-out tours, the singer/songwriter is one of a handful of artists able to balance incredible commercial success with can’t-pay-for-it credibility.

In addition to albums sold and awards won, Craig has helped redefine British pop music. Years before Disclosure, Rudimental or Clean Bandit arrived on Radio 1, Craig brought everything from UK garage, to stripped back acoustics and electro-edged R&B to the UK charts.

His 14 top 10 singles, including Fill Me In, 7 Days, Walking Away, What’s Your Flava, Hot Stuff (‘Let’s Dance’), and the incredible duet with Sting, Rise And Fall, established Craig as an indisputable commercial success, and proved that British urban music had the power to go pop.

Both the record industry and music fans acknowledged Craig’s contributions with three Ivor Novellos, (including the two highly prestigious awards for Songwriter Of The Year and Best Contemporary Song), four MOBOs, two MTV EMA awards and three sold-out shows at Wembley Arena, plus multiple Brit and Grammy award nominations.

Recently MTV viewers voted Craig’s Born To Do It the second Greatest Album Ever in MTV history, just behind Michael Jackson’s Thriller. As well as his work in music, Craig has received a number of life affirming honours during his career. Southampton Solent University awarded Craig an Honorary Doctorate of Music. He was appointed as a UN Goodwill Ambassador for the Stop TB Partnership and was also part of the celebrity Desert Trek team who walked 100km across the Northern Kenya desert to raise awareness and money for Comic Relief in February 2011.

His recent single, When The Bassline Drops, a collaboration with grime artist Big Narstie entered the Official UK Top 10 six weeks after release and has now sold over 300,000 copies, remaining in the top 40 singles chart for over three months. His follow up single Nothing Like This, a collaboration with dance duo Blonde, has already shot straight into the iTunes chart at #6  and has debuted at #4 in the Official UK Chart on day one.

Craig’s recent return to music has proved his popularity has far from faded, with his Radio 1 Live Lounge cover of Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself” garnering a staggering 5 million views within 24 hours. Publications around the world, including Billboard and TIME Magazine featured the video, hailing it the best and most relevant return to music by an artist in decades, with NME voting it in their Top 10 Live Lounges of all time.

Craig released his first new studio album for seven years in October 2016. He has collaborated with a number of  producers and artists, established and new for this highly anticipated record including Major Lazer, Diplo, Chase & Status, DJ Fresh, Hardwell,  Kaytranada, , Katy B, Blonde, Toby Gad, White N3rd; to name a few.

Since 2013, Craig has also built his TS5 brand from house party, to radio show, to sell-out live concert. His unique brand of DJ-ing, MC-ing, mixing and singing live, with sets in the biggest clubs as far and wide as France, Italy, Morocco, Moscow, South Korea, Dubai and Beijing have attracted fans in their thousands.

In addition to shutting down Notting Hill Carnival, and blowing the Bollywood stage apart at Bestival as well as a sold out five date Australia tour in 2015, Craig’s TS5 nights are fast becoming one of the most sought after in the UK’s capital city. Tickets to the first TS5 headline show at Oslo Hackney in London in July 2015, sold out in minutes. Curating a line-up of up and coming DJs, such as White N3rd & Endor, alongside established acts like Shy FX to support him at his second show at Shapes Hackney in October, the show sold out even quicker. Craig David’s TS5 at Koko in London’s Camden in March 2016 also followed suit selling out in a record time, of less than five minutes.

2016 proved to be a successful year for TS5, kicking off with a sold out exclusive concert for MTV in London, which was also broadcast on the TV station. As well as this, TS5 has already been confirmed for every major festival this summer including, Glastonbury, V Festival, Wireless, Bestival and Radio 1’s Big Weekend. These will be followed by an eight Week TS5 Residency at Ibiza Rocks throughout July and August.

This is being hailed as one of the great comebacks of all time by many people, but in truth, he never really went away.

Craig David will be playing alongside All Saints and Feeder at the Dubai Duty Free and Shergar Cup on Saturday 12th August 2017. Tickets start from £31 per person if booked in advance. For more information and to buy your tickets please click here
