Go Conquer Stars as Jumps Racing Returns To Ascot

Go Conquer and Aidan Coleman produced a dominating display to win the Sodexo Gold Cup Handicap Steeple Chase as jumps racing returned to Ascot for the Fireworks Spectacular Family Raceday.

Go Conquer led from the off and finished strongly to win at a canter, with Rock Gone and Braqueur D'or finishing second and third respectively, and last year’s winner Antony finishing fifth.

In the William Hill Handicap Hurdle, there was a thrilling victory for Elgin and Tom Cannon.

Four horses jumped together at the last, but it was the five-year-old Elgin who stayed strongest in the final furlong, beating Limited Reserve, High Bridge and Air Horse One to the line.

Jamie Moore had earlier steered Dell Oro to victory in the first jumps race of the season at Ascot – the GL Events UK Novices Hurdle.

It was the first of two winners for Moore and his Trainer father, Gary on the day, with Jamie also coming home on 9/2 shot Benatar in the third race of the day, the Ascot Underwriting Chase.

Leighton Aspell also claimed two winners on the day, coming home on 16/1 shot Brown Bear in the Gardener & Theobold Novices’ Stakes and rounding the day off with a victory on Jersey Bean.

Exitas won the day’s other race, the Byrne Group Handicap Chase.

The next racing at Ascot is the Prince's Countryside Fund Racing Weekend & Christmas Shopping Fair.
