The Flat is Back at Ascot Racecourse


The world’s most famous racecourse will again have eyes from around the world focussed on it as the flat season takes centre stage.

Of course, Royal Ascot will again be the centrepiece in June as the best horses on the planet head to Berkshire for five days of elite racing, pageantry, style and more.

The richest day in the British racing calendar which draws the season to a close, QIPCO British Champions Day, also returns in August and will be the long term aim for many of the highest rated horses in Europe and beyond.

The King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes in July remains the elite Group 1 over 1m 4f and worth more than £1million in prize money followed by The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup and post-racing concert in August and much more.

Wednesday 3rd May: Discover Ascot Raceday

The opening day of Ascot’s Flat season is perfect for racing newcomers. Queen Anne Enclosure admission is free and there will be talks and tours giving an insight into the sport. Featured is the £60,000 Group Three Longines Sagaro Stakes, one of the most important trial races for the Gold Cup on the third day of Royal Ascot.

Friday 12th and Saturday 13th May: May Racing Weekend

On Friday, Ascot celebrates the start of lighter summer nights with its only evening meeting, whilst Saturday is an excellent day of racing featuring the Totepool Victoria Cup. On both days, racegoers will be able to enjoy live music alongside racing.

Tuesday 20th – Saturday 24th June: Royal Ascot

One of the most anticipated events in the British summer sporting and social calendar and the centrepiece of Ascot’s year. Five days of world-class racing, excitement, pageantry, fashion and style.

Friday 13th and Saturday 14th July: Summer Mile Racing Weekend (Saturday: family day)

Saturday’s raceday features the £130,000 Group Two Fred Cowley MBE Memorial Summer Mile and is a relaxed yet stylish day of picnicking with plenty of free family entertainment including fairground rides, children’s activities and a teddy bears’ picnic on the lawns. The annual Property Raceday, held on Friday, is a well-established fundraising occasion for the property industry and has raised more than £1million for children’s charities.

Friday 28th and Saturday 29th July: King George VI Weekend

The King George VI Weekend is one of Ascot’s most prestigious summer meetings. Saturday features the historic King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (sponsored by QIPCO) with its prize fund of more than £1million.

Saturday 12th August: Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup & Concert

The world’s premier international jockeys’ competition returns to Ascot for 2017 and will once again feature riding talent from around the world. Racing is followed by an evening concert featuring 80’s and 90’’s icons. The line-up will be announced in early 2017.

Friday 8th and Saturday 9th September: Festival of Food & Wine Racing Weekend

A two-day celebration of food, wine and good quality Flat racing. In between racing, racegoers can enjoy a cooking demonstration from a well-known celebrity chef (to be announced in 2017) and numerous food and wine stalls showcasing gastronomic delights from around the world. The Food and Wine Festival will also be held on Thursday 7th and Sunday 10th September without racing alongside.

Friday 6th and Saturday 7th October: Autumn Racing Weekend and Ascot Beer Festival

A two-day Flat meeting featuring the £180,000 Totepool Challenge Cup where racegoers can enjoy sampling more than 240 ales, ciders and perries alongside the racing.

Saturday 21st October: QIPCO British Champions Day

QIPCO British Champions Day is the grand finale of the European Flat season and the richest day in British racing.
