Enable’s connections eyeing QIPCO Champion Stakes tilt

King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (sponsored by QIPCO) star Enable are seriously considering capitalising on an extended break to run in the QIPCO Champion Stakes, according to connections.

The three-year-old, who was a convincing winner at Ascot in July, has been one of the stars of the season - having also won the Oaks at Epsom earlier in the campaign.

With the break between the Arc and Champions Day further apart this season, trainer John Gosden has potential QIPCO Champion Stakes glory on his mind.

“Obviously she has been entered in both Ascot races and there is a week longer between the Arc and Champions Day this year.

“That means from a trainer’s point of view, you’re not trying to back up in 13 days at Ascot this year – there are 20 this time – so all possibilities are open.

“A lot could still happen in the months ahead but it’s a great day and a meeting we’ve had some success at in the past.”

The world’s best middle distance stars - Coronation Stakes heroine Winter, Prince of Wales’s Stakes champion Highland Reel and last year’s victor Almanzor among others - also feature in the 49-strong early entries for the QIPCO Champion Stakes.
