Cracksman and Frankie Dettori dazzle Champions Day

Cracksman and Frankie Dettori stormed clear to win the QIPCO Champion Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

The son of Frankel put in a stunning display to soar clear of a high class field to hand his sire his first Group 1 success for John Gosden.

John Gosden had an excellent day as Persuasive stormed home to win the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (sponsored by QIPCO).

The race was billed as a battle between Ribchester and Churchill, however the pair could only battle for the places as Persuasive came late down the outside to land the prize.

The day started in thrilling style as Ryan Moore produced the perfect ride to get Order of St George home in the QIPCO British Long Distance Cup.

It looked as though the Arc placed Aidan O’Brien raider had too much to do in the final furlong but Torcedor weakened in front and Order of St George came through to seal the Group 2 glory.

There was a surprise in the QIPCO British Champion Sprint Stakes as Ascot specialist Librisa Breeze fired home to beat some high class sprinters on the biggest stage.

It looked as though Harry Angel may be hard to pass but the pace took its toll and Librisa Breeze held on.

Aidan O’Brien equalled the Group 1 winners record thanks to Hydrangea who stormed home under Ryan Moore to win the QIPCO British Champion Fillies and Mares Stakes ahead of the highly fancied Bateel.

Well-backed favourite Lord Glitters stormed clear to win the Balmoral Handicap to close QIPCO British Champions Day.

Tickets for QIPCO British Champions Day 2018 are on sale now.
