Autumn Racing Weekend and Ascot Beer Festival action

Racing is back at Ascot for the Autumn Racing Weekend & Ascot Beer Festival and the action on the track is set to be extremely informative.

There are two important Group Three races on Saturday’s card; the Gigaset Cumberland Lodge Stakes over a mile-and-a-half and the John Guest Bengough Stakes over six furlongs, for three-year-olds and upwards.

The Cumberland Lodge always features quality middle distance horses usually just below the level of last week's Arc in Paris. However, in the case of Waldgeist who is running on Saturday, a very welcome visitor from Andre Fabre’s stable in France, some real stardust is sprinkled on the occasion as the three-year-old finished fourth in the Irish Derby and second in the French equivalent on his last two runs.

The Bengough Stakes provides a final opportunity to tune up for the Group One QIPCO Champions Sprint Stakes in two week’s time and the runners on Saturday which are also entered on British Champions Day are Magical Memory, Blue Point, Danzeno and Second Thought. Projection runs for the Royal Ascot Racing Club and although usually competing in top handicaps, can be expected to hold his own in this company if the ground doesn’t get too soft.

Tickets remain on sale for the Autumn Racing Weekend & Ascot Beer Festival Saturday from £18.
