With just one month to go until Britain’s richest raceday, QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday 21stOctober, racegoers are being urged to book their tickets soon, with two of the three enclosures having sold out. The only remaining tickets now are in the Queen Anne enclosure, with just a handful of hospitality places available as well.
Having been officially rated as the best raceday in Europe last year, this year’s renewal has attracted entries from all of Europe’s top horses including the world’s best rated sprinter, Harry Angel, and Europe’s top miler, Ribchester. The day boasts an unrivalled British card comprising four Group 1 races, a Group 2, the world’s richest mile handicap and offers record-breaking prize money of £4.3 million this year.
Beyond the stellar action on track there will also be plenty to entertain racegoers with an Opening Ceremony to kick off the day’s racing, at which renowned sporting soprano Laura Wright will perform. A dedicated fanzone, in partnership with the Pony Club will include a series of activities for under 18s, who attend the day for free, including a bitesize lesson with a jockey coach, a tour of the racecourse prior to racing and a meet and greet with an ex-racehorse.
Additionally Chris Smith’s celebrated Champions of Sport photography exhibition will be on show featuring images of Lester Piggott and the late Sir Henry Cecil, together with those of other sporting icons such as Muhammed Ali. There will be the chance for racegoers to meet some of their sporting heroes with jockey autograph signings. The day will be brought to a close at the after-party at which award-winning singer songwriter George Ezra will perform hits from his quadruple platinum, number 1 debut album including ‘Budapest’and ‘Blame it on Me’.
