High class entries for Saturday’s £110,000 Group 2 Fred Cowley MBE Memorial Summer Mile Stakes are headed by impressive 2016 winner Mutakayyef.
The William Haggis six-year-old came from mid-field to soar home at Ascot last July and ran a storming race to finish behind only Ribchester in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot under a month ago.
Aidan O’Brien’s Deauville finished third in that opening race at the Royal meeting and will oppose Mutakayyef again in the Summer Mile Stakes as will Kaspersky, Kool Kompany and Dutch Connection who all finished behind in the same race.
Consistent Gabrial, Sovereign Debt and Firmament are also entered along with an interesting entry from France in the shape of Zalamea for Carina Fey.
A strong French raid also includes Taareef, who has only been beaten by the mighty Almanzor in his last four starts and shows extremely strong form ahead of the first trip to England. The Mr Hamdan Al Maktoum trained star could go up against stablemate Mutakayyef.
Hathal returns to Ascot after running in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on QIPCO British Champions Day last year and Richard Pankhurst is entered after struggling at Newmarket last time out.
