Leading apprentice Sammy Jo Bell is set to step in for the injured Cathy Gannon in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup at Ascot on Saturday.
Bell, who has enjoyed 22 winners this year and lies sixth in the Stobart-backed apprentice jockeys' title, will represent the girls' team in the prestigious event after it was announced Gannon has yet to recover from the collarbone injury she suffered at Chepstow last month.
Ascot's Head of International Racing Nick Smith said on Tuesday: "Unfortunately Cathy can't ride but Sammy Jo has been riding a lot of winners and we thought it would be good to give her a chance in the spotlight. Hopefully she'll be a good addition to the team.
"We discussed it and she's been quite a high-profile name in recent weeks, but the offer comes on the back of her good record and it looked a logical way to go. I haven't spoken to her myself but she's delighted for sure.
"It's the first time we've had anyone on the team who is a training jockey as such but we thought, with the number of winners she's riding, she deserves a break now rather than waiting for maybe next year. The event is about showcasing new talent."
Gannon, who has been out of action since bruising her collarbone when she was unseated from My Son Max before a race on July 24, had initially intended to take a few days off to make sure she was fit in time to ride in the Ascot event, which she participated in for the first time two years ago.
However, her agent Neil Allan revealed on Tuesday she would not be taking her place in the line-up.
"Cathy was hopeful that she'd be back riding for the meeting but she's around 90 per cent fit and that just isn't good enough," said Allan. "She should be back riding some time next week."
Emma-Jayne Wilson will captain the girls' team, which is completed by Hayley Turner.
Racing is followed by a free evening concert for racegoers featuring Lulu, Rick Astley, Blue, Razorlight and Hayseed Dixie.
The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup will be held on Saturday 8th August. Grandstand Admission tickets are available from £25.
