The Experience

A day at Royal Ascot is about so much more than the exhilarating racing action. Featuring high fashion, sumptuous cuisine and pageantry, Royal Ascot promises an occasion that will last long in the memory.

History Making Moments

Royal Ascot has a proud history of defining moments, providing the ultimate platform for the world’s finest racehorses and jockeys. Watch our video to see what you can expect at the world’s greatest meeting.

Over 300 years of Racing

It was Queen Anne who first saw the potential for a racecourse at Ascot whilst out riding in 1711. The first ever race meeting took place that year, with the first four-day meeting in 1768.

The Royal Procession

On each of the five days of Royal Ascot Her Majesty The Queen and her guests arrive at Royal Ascot by horse-drawn landaus, travelling down the straight mile before circling the iconic Parade Ring. Continuing a tradition started by King George IV in 1825, the landaus passes guests within every enclosure.

What to wear to Royal Ascot

A day at Royal Ascot is very special and dressing accordingly is an important part of the experience.

The dress code, set out below and encapsulated in this video, is designed to help racegoers to dress appropriately for the occasion.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to Royal Ascot.

There are three enclosures at Royal Ascot. Each enclosure offers guests a truly unique experience of the timeless Royal meeting.

Royal Enclosure

Established in 1822 when King George IV commissioned a two-storey stand to be built with a surrounding lawn, the exclusive Royal Enclosure provides, for many, the quintessential Royal Ascot experience. Within the Royal Enclosure, guests will gain a firsthand experience of the timeless traditions and sophistication Royal Ascot is synonymous with. To visit this enclosure you will need a formal invitation from a current Royal Enclosure member.

The Grandstand

Grandstand admission offers guests an enhanced experience of Royal Ascot. With the Parade Ring centrally located, Grandstand admission guests will be able to enjoy the pre-race build-up then watch the magnificent horses charge down the home straight from elevated vantage points. Guests can also enjoy our varied restaurants and bars throughout the day and join in with singing around the bandstand after the final race.

Silver Ring

Located on the straight mile, the Silver Ring is a vibrant and exciting enclosure. Guests will be the first to see the Royal Procession and have rail-side views as the world best racehorses thunder past. The Silver Ring enclosure also boasts a new Sourced Market deli and great dining options. Once the racing finishes, the party continues with a live house band providing the soundtrack.

Style Guide

Although no formal dress code applies in the Silver Ring Enclosure, racegoers are encouraged to wear smart clothes.

Please note that fancy dress, novelty, and branded or promotional clothing is not allowed, and bare chests are not permitted at any time.
