Colours
These are the owner's colours worn by the jockey when riding their horse to help distinguish them from other runners in the race.
Horse and Owner
The name of the horse is then listed in red above the name of the owner.
Weight
In conditions races or weight-for-age-races each horse is allocated a certain weight to carry, depending on factors such as age, sex and past performances. Examples of such races are Maiden Stakes, Novice Stakes or Classified Stakes.
In handicap contests the weight of each horse is allocated by the official handicapper, again according to past performances - the aim of this is to equalise the chances of all horses in the race. A low weight can often be an advantage so it is useful to compare what each horse is carrying.
Jockey and Trainer
Following a successful jockey or stable is not a bad way to begin your search for a winner. Just as looking for a horse in form, finding a trainer or jockey that have had recent winners can be equally effective.
Previous Form
Each horse will have recent performances listed in abbreviated form, for example - 124-PB1. This gives you an indication of the horse's previous and current form. The number represents where the horse was placed in each race, with the most recent performance on the right.
