Seventh Race - Diamond Research Classified Stakes

Dali Brings Up Double

Senor Dalis victory in the concluding mile and a quarter Diamond Research Classified Stakes complemented Scarlet Runners earlier win to give trainer John Dunlop and jockey Kerrin McEvoy a 41/1 double on the day.
McEvoy gave the colt a copybook ride as he tracked the front-running Divine Gift, who set a steady pace under Neil Callan, before kicking for home at the top of the straight to reward his supporters at odds of 6/1.The Australian rider reported: It was a bit of a false tempo but I did not want to sit upsides Neil (Callan) because my horse might have done too much. Hes an honest horse, and when I asked him to go he kept running.

Senor Dali, who finished eight lengths 11th behind Snoqualmie Boy in the Listed Hampton Court Stakes over the course and distance at the Royal Meeting, took the prize by a length and a quarter from Desert Realm. Dunlop commented: We will keep him to a mile and a quarter for now because it seems to suit him, though I believe he will probably get a mile and a half. That was a slowly run race and he did it well, but the race conditions also suited him. He is a genuine horse.
