Ascot Racecourse races all year round with a 26 day programme of jump and flat fixtures. The racecourse hosts some of the world’s best flat races during its summer season and during its jump season offers the highest value prize money in the UK.
Ascot Racecourse was built in 1711 and, during its near 300 year history has recorded some of the most historic moments in British horseracing.
The undoubted highlight of Ascot’s year is Royal Ascot featuring the greatest five days of flat racing anywhere in the world. This year will be the 200th anniversary of Royal Ascot’s oldest race, The Gold Cup, run on Thursday 21st June. The high standards continue in July with King George Day featuring The King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes. This is the top flat race in the world and draws the cream of horses racing on the world stage. Now in its 56th year, this race has produced some competitive finishes, none more so than the 2006 dual between Electrocutionist ridden by Frankie Dettori and the winner, Hurricane Run. The quality extends throughout the flat season at Ascot to The Mile Championships in September featuring the best mile race in Europe, The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.
Jump racing at Ascot in 2008 runs from January until March and resumes again in October and continues until March 2009. Highlights include The Victor Chandler Chase in January, The Commercial First Ascot Chase in February, The Allied Irish Bank Meeting in November featuring The Carey Group Handicap Chase and The BGC Meeting in December featuring the Grade 1, BGC Long Walk Hurdle. Jump racing returned to the new Ascot in October 2006 following two seasons of relocated fixtures whilst the racecourse was being redeveloped. The autumn of 2006 saw another major landmark for Ascot as it embarked on its most valuable and exciting jumps programme in 40 years of the winter game at the Royal Racecourse. The 2007 / 2008 jump season will offer nearly £2 million in prize money, including a host of races worth £100,000 or more. The 2008 / 2009 jumps programe prize money will be announced in early Autumn 2008.
Ascot Racecourse provides racing and entertainment for everybody, so, whether you are a first time racegoer or an experienced punter, Ascot Racecourse will provide you with a memorable day out. The race fixtures that Ascot hosts demonstrate that Ascot is more than just a racecourse with Family Days, when free entertainment is provided at the racecourse throughout the day to create a fun day out and the very best flat racing anywhere in the world with the highest prize money on offer during the jump season.
Ascot Racecourse looks forward to welcoming you in 2008.
